Dr. Alicia Rojas is a parasitologist that focuses on helminths of veterinary and human importance. Her research in the University of Costa Rica includes the phylogenetic relationships and epidemiology of helminths, as well as molecular aspects of these worms such as the characterization of products of excretion secretion and extracellular vesicles. Currently, she works with the zoonotic nematodes Toxocara canis, Angiostrongylus costaricensis and the dog carcinogenic nematode Spirocerca lupi. She coordinates a network with researchers from Latin America to study Angiostrongylus costaricensis, AcosNET, in order to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the infection this worm causes. In addition, she is member of TroCCAP (Tropical Council for Companion Animal Parasites), she is an associate editor of the journal Parasites & Vectors, and part of the editorial board of Acta Tropica and Current Research in Parasitology and Vector Borne Diseases.
