- Artificial intelligence,
- Data mining and complexity of biological systems.
Jose Arturo Molina Mora is a researcher/teacher at Section of Cellular and Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Microbiology and the Center for Research on Tropical Diseases of the University of Costa Rica. He works topics of bioinformatics, mathematical-computational modeling and data mining analysis in projects related to studies of complexity of biological systems, including cancer, resistance to antibiotics, metabolic diseases and genomic surveillance of pathogens. He is also member of the commission and teacher of the program of Master in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the University of Costa Rica. He is currently the header of the Project of genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Costa Rica.
He completed a degree in Microbiology and Clinical Chemistry (2012) and previously he had obtained another degree in Mathematics teaching (2007), both at the University of Costa Rica. In 2015 he obtained his Master in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the same university, with a multidisciplinary thesis work with a hybrid mathematical model (artificial intelligence + differential equations + fluorescence microscopy) to predict the tumor response to chemotherapy.
As part of the Doctoral studies, he was trained in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence at the Informatics School of the University of A Coruna, Spain, as well he completed his bioinformatics training at The Human Phenome Institute in the Fudan University, Shanghai, China. In 2020 he completed the Program of the Ph.D. in Science with emphasis on Bioinformatics (University of Costa Rica) with studies of genomic and transcriptomic complexity, artificial intelligence and large-scale networks in the context of resistance to drugs at the cell level.
